Lab test and lab results

YHP uses Quest Diagnostics for laboratory services. You may have your testing done at any of their locations in Connecticut or at YUHS' on-site lab located within our 17 Hillhouse Avenue facility. Occasionally, a clinician may ask you to have lab work done prior to your appointment. Please allow approximately 30 minutes before your appointment for the lab work to be completed. Availability of test results varies. Blood work is usually available within 1 to 3 working days. Results for skin biopsies usually take one week. Test results will be communicated to you via telephone, mailings, Yale Health Online and through our clinical staff.

FAQs

  • I am a Medicare patient. Can I be seen in the department?
No- Medicare patients are not eligible for treatment in our Dermatology department.
  • I have questions about my bill.
Please contact Member Services (203-432-0246) for billing questions.
  • I am a student and have waived YHP coverage. Am I still covered for services?
All students who have waived need to check with their primary insurance company to verify coverage prior to being seen in our department.
  • Can I walk in for treatment or services?
Typically not. Patients must be assessed and received a referral from Internal Medicine or Student Medicine. Exceptions to this include: acute rash, changing mole, or a diagnosis by a previous dermatologist.
  • What is a mole screening and how do I get one?
Mole screenings are done to check a spot (or spots) on the body. Other dermatological issues will not be discussed at that time, as it is only a 5 minute appointment. Mole screenings are held periodically throughout the year, and you do not need a referral to attend.
  • I was referred to an outside provider. Can I just keep seeing this person now?
No. When referred out to another provider, you must still come back to YHP for follow up care.
